How To Order Animals

Please follow the guidelines listed below for ordering live animals from Approved Vendors:

  • All animals are ordered through the DLAM/IACUC office (except fish and amphibians).
  • All animal orders must be submitted on a Laboratory Animal Requisition Form and be received prior to the submission deadline.
    • Prior arrangements must be made with DLAM for all animals that will need special housing. The PI is required to meet with the DLAM Director prior to ordering animals that will be treated with bio-hazardous materials, chemical hazards, or radioactive materials. This is to ensure the proper procedures are in place prior to the animals being treated, and to ensure the safety of the DLAM and investigator staff.
  • Deadlines for ordering animals: Most animal deliveries are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For Tuesday deliveries, animal requisitions must be received in the DLAM office by 12:00 noon on the previous Friday. For Thursday delivery, animal requisitions must be received by 12:00 Noon on the previous Tuesday. Basically, animal orders must be ordered at least 48 hours in advance. This allows the DLAM to process the order, print cage cards, and ensure there is enough space to house the new animals. For Wednesday deliveries, the animal requisition must be received in the DLAM office by 12:00 noon on the previous Monday. Emergency orders may be assessed a $25.00 processing fee. For more information on specific vendors and delivery dates, see our Animal Delivery Dates & Approved Vendors page.
