The Use of Tissues and Fluids from Euthanized Animals

An approved animal protocol is not required for the collection and use of tissues and fluids (i.e. blood) provided by collaborators on or off campus with approved protocols or other approved animal sources (i.e. slaughterhouse, butcher, etc.). To reduce the number of animals used in research, investigators are encouraged to share animal tissues and fluids after the animals are euthanized. It is important to note that an animal may not be euthanized specifically to harvest tissue without an approved animal protocol. See the NU-IACUC Policy on Tissue and Fluid Use for more details.
