Stem Cell Research Oversight (SCRO)
Research activities that include the use of Human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESCs or hES) may require approval from the Northeastern IRB in order to proceed.
Even if the IRB does not review the protocol (not required when hES are procured from a registered cell line), Northeastern’s IBC will review and approve the research: hES are considered human tissue.
Investigators should also notify NU-RES of the planned activity either by noting it in ePAWs during the application, during the award acceptance and set up process, or when such work is added to a project. Notification of the use of hES may be directed to your Grant Officer or to nu-res@northeastern.edu.
