National Institutes of Health (NIH)

NIH uses activity codes (e.g. R01, F31, P50, etc.) to differentiate the wide variety of research-related programs it supports. Each type of NIH grant program has its own set of instructions and eligibility criteria.

Unless specified in an NIH funding announcement, proposals to NIH must be submitted electronically via either eRA ASSIST or Grants.gov Workspace.

Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the funding announcement and the instructions found in NIH’s General Application Guide.

Department of Energy – Office of Science (OS)

Unless specified in the broad agency or funding opportunity announcement, proposals to ONR must be submitted electronically via Grants.gov Workspace.

ONR’s website provides many resources related to grant and contract proposals, as well as standard terms and conditions that can be expected with a resulting award.

Department of Energy – Office of Science (OS)

• DOE Office of Science proposals are typically submitted electronically via Grants.gov Workspace.
• After submission, they are inserted into the DOE Portfolio Analysis and Management system (PAMS).
  • The Principal Investigator, Authorized Representative, and Point of Contact on the application will received an email from PAMS once the proposal is ready for viewing in the system. This typically occurs after DOE has assigned a Program Manager to the application.
• Resources related to proposal preparation and grant guidelines can be found on the OS website.

NASA

Unless specified in the funding announcement, proposals to NASA are submitted electronically via Grants.gov Workspace or NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES).
